Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park is located in south of the town of Ely in White Pine County, Nevada. The most impressive feature of this area is the 6 coal Ovens which is thirty feet tall and twenty-seven feet in diameter at the base, with a wall thickness of 20 inches. These honey comb shaped structure are actually coal kilns or coal furnaces operated from 1876 to 1879, they were coal-fired stoves from pine wood and juniper wood.
